Final Digipak and feedback

The final design of our digipak I believe represents Barde in the best way possible to express who she is as an artist. The theme of orange/pink and green are evenly balanced throughout which add some colour and uniqueness. I think the website is an adaptation of the digipak as websites are more digitally advanced and give you a further insight of the artist and how to get more involved with them.

The balance of black and white on the digipak is in connection with the website as we have a few images that are black and white which add a raw tone.

With the insert of this shoot of Barde below I think it expressed Barde's style and personality well with it being quite a unique and unusual set of photos. The randomness of the looking glass and flowers add quirkiness.

From the feedback from someone who is interested in alternative genre, we were able to gain the right responses which would help us develop and alter when coming back to the digipak. We were able to create a successful piece in which portrays and reflects the genre well. I got to understand the good and not so good parts of our digipak and what we could develop and improve next time.

first draft website feedback

From the feedback from the survey asking people questions about the website, I was able to improve and change some things that completed the overall effectiveness of the site and how the public interact with it.

From question 2 which was 'What didn't you like about the website?' the most common response was about the description on Barde as an artist and it being too vague. Also, there were some minor comments on some details that came automatically with the website that i forgot to remove. However, the feedback I received from my group and anonymous people helped me structure the website better.

In the final question I was pleased to see that the genre that the audience thought was most prominent was alternative/ indie which is what my goal was.

What I learnt from this feedback was more of what our audience want to see of an indie artist and what my ideas and design portrayed.

Website research

https://manager.bandsintown.com/

This website would have helped with the set up of the tour for our artist, however our group decided to make a poster instead because we thought it would be more affective and more straight to the point.

Website design change

As i'm creating the website for Barde, i decided that the last website design wasn't up to standard so I changed the complete layout which is more her style of alternative, pop genre. The colours and theme are more modern and youthful which express Barde's personality more. The colours green and pink which my group decided on are highlighted more in this new idea. Adding to this, the website is more functional and interactive with a new feature that my old design didn't have, a 'merch' tab which is required.
The font i decided to fix on, named 'Trend', i think represented Barde the most and went well with the whole theme of the website. The black background was always something i wanted to include because i believe it adds a modern, sleek look.

This image of Barde works really well with blending in with the background which i was really happy with as it looks seamless and it flows well. I also edited the photo to make sure the image's background was pure black so that it would blend in.

From this, what I learnt was that anything I do can be developed and improved through new ideas from others which I can take into consideration to improve myself as well as the products I make.

genre classnotes - Q1b

GENRE
What is genre?
The type - categorises what type

Identifying genre
Mise-en-scene
Language
production techniques (editing, camera angles and movement, structure, filters, effects, sounds)
Narrative structures (linear, non-linear)
Symbolic codes (e.g cowboy hat)
Action codes (body language, hand gestures)

Genre for producers:
gives a pattern for construction, template
established audience- marketing
stars can associate themselves with a particular genre e.g Will Ferrell is known for a certain type of comedy
Fans of genre know the codes, don't have to always try and refer to the genre

Distributors
Clear channels for marketing and distribution
fans of genre can be persuaded
provides a structure for retail outlets

Theory
Steal Neal
'genre is a repetition with an underlying pattern of variations'
'difference is absolutely essential to the economy of genre'

  • twisting the genre to make it more interesting
Explore two ideas
how have you used overt (obvious) codes, iconography and techniques?
how have you made subtle changes to these genre expectations?

Repitition? Variations?

John Hartley
"Genres are agents of ideological closure- they limit the meaning- potential of a given text"
Limits what you can be
"The same text can belong to different genres in different counteries of times." - negative
Limits what a music video could be - however it creates a framework

John Fiske
Defines genre as 'attempts to structure some order into the wide range of texts and meanings that circulate in our culture for the convenience of both producers and audiences." - positive

Laura Mulvey
The male gaze which objectifies women

shooting the new idea

The reshooting of our new idea of Barde standing on the podium with her younger self included in the scenes was very successful and wasn't very time consuming and was very effective. We included more creative and spontaneous ideas using a magnifying glass which worked really well. Shots where the younger Barde was interrupting the original Barde was the original idea which came together. I would say the only challenge we had was balancing the camera to make sure we got the right height to make the frame look even and precise and balancing my camera on a slightly unstable tripod, however, we still made it work and it turned out successful. The lighting we had, made everything much better and sharper.

New idea

From us having to restart, as a group we had to think fast about an effective and interesting video to reshoot. We decided to come up with the idea of Barde, however it'll be a younger version of her being on a podium ( like before ) with a green screen behind her which will have abstract and interesting shots of london.

This new idea is more simplistic due to the lack of time we have after the loss of our work. It consists of a green screen that will be set up on a podium which will be located in the main hall on the stage in lower school and on the screen will be videos of interesting shots around London. The image above shows this however in the image below, it shows the young Barde watching the film which will be incorporated with our other footage which will compliment the fast paced elements in the music.

Website - update

As my group decided, the first attempt of the website, was that it was a little bit basic and immature looking so I decided to come up with a darker theme, however, still keeping the elements of pink and green incorporated to add some colour and character. Using Wix has helped me develop my thoughts and include them to the website to make it look more sophisticated and put together, I discovered how to add certain features such as more detailed social media logos and slides which make the website more interactive.

I still have some things to add, for instance, the homepage needs to have out album cover on it along with our song which I image to play in the background. Also, I need to add more stuff to the about page and include more experience to Barde as an artist and make it more personal.
I'm thinking the black and white image is a bit much considering the background is black so I might change that once I get feedback from my group.

This page will have 3 main images that will be placed on the slide bar which will be animated followed by more images below.

Understanding of a fan

What makes a fan?
A fan is someone who has an overwhelming interest or enthusiasm towards  a trend, a person or sporting club ect. Common characteristics found in fans is the internal involvement, some fans also change their lifestyle or appearance to dedicate this involvement also.  This involvement also includes the following of that certain subject or person, e.g attending concerts, playing games, purchasing merch ect.
Fan loyalty is the loyalty felt and expressed towards their fanaticism

Having watched the BBC documentary 'When pop ruled my life' it was clear to understand how eaily it is to become obsessed and involved with the latest trends. I experienced all the stages of a fan and how it can progress and become fixated upon a person. A loyal fan will stick through thick and thin of an artist and try and be involved with every aspect of that persons life so that they feel involved and almost as if they know everything about that person. As the documentary went on, I realised thatevern if a band or artist is playing live, fans in the 70s and 80s would be so overwhelming that the music itself couldn't even be heard, however this wasn't important to the fans. Nowadays fans are more laid back as people understand more about privacy as you grow up and start to appreciate things from a distance.

From this documentary, I learnt the ins and out, the thought processes and real life experiences and dedications of real fans, giving me the insight to understand what fans want and how they follow a certain trend or artist.

To attract a fan and achieve consistant loyalty, as a group, we need to create a bond between the artist and the audience and be keep up the brand we are selling and promoting to our target audience so that they feel engaged.

loss of work- restarting

Unfortunately due to the computers being wiped, we lost most of our work which would be a waste of time to re film it, however, this has made our group stronger and helped us think fast and come up with a video which won't take up a lot of time but will still be effective and interesting.

website - first attempt

When thinking about making the website for Barde, I was instructed by my group to go with the colours pink and green which reflect Barde's artist personality. I didn't want to go too overboard and cram the website with unnecessary information; just wanted to get to the point, so when you visit the website, it's straightforward and easy to use. Using Wix to create the website has made the process very easy and simple which has helped me a lot. As barde is a

Digipak trials

Being inspired by the 60s, this was what my group came up with experimenting with different fonts and borders which are very different in each trial. My group played around with using uneven borders but soon after, realised that this wasn't what we liked or reflected the true Shakespeare aesthetic. These two images were what we thought of before, experimenting with fonts and images.
