Understanding of a fan

What makes a fan?
A fan is someone who has an overwhelming interest or enthusiasm towards  a trend, a person or sporting club ect. Common characteristics found in fans is the internal involvement, some fans also change their lifestyle or appearance to dedicate this involvement also.  This involvement also includes the following of that certain subject or person, e.g attending concerts, playing games, purchasing merch ect.
Fan loyalty is the loyalty felt and expressed towards their fanaticism

Having watched the BBC documentary 'When pop ruled my life' it was clear to understand how eaily it is to become obsessed and involved with the latest trends. I experienced all the stages of a fan and how it can progress and become fixated upon a person. A loyal fan will stick through thick and thin of an artist and try and be involved with every aspect of that persons life so that they feel involved and almost as if they know everything about that person. As the documentary went on, I realised thatevern if a band or artist is playing live, fans in the 70s and 80s would be so overwhelming that the music itself couldn't even be heard, however this wasn't important to the fans. Nowadays fans are more laid back as people understand more about privacy as you grow up and start to appreciate things from a distance.

From this documentary, I learnt the ins and out, the thought processes and real life experiences and dedications of real fans, giving me the insight to understand what fans want and how they follow a certain trend or artist.

To attract a fan and achieve consistant loyalty, as a group, we need to create a bond between the artist and the audience and be keep up the brand we are selling and promoting to our target audience so that they feel engaged.
